In split nursing, the first-born and largest piglets are isolated from their dam for short periods (20-30 minutes) within the first 24 hours of birth. This means that the last-born and smallest piglets have the "milk bar" to themselves.
Our split nursing unit ensures that the piglets are returned automatically to the sow after a pre-set intercal. There is no risk of forgetting to return the piglets to the sow. The also halves the number of visits needed to the pen, which is beneficial for hygiene.
As a rule of thumb, if you have a herd of 1,000 sows, you will need 15 split nursing units.
Mount the split nursing unit to a board close to a nest.
Switch on the split nursing unit, set the required interval on the display, and close the lid. Set the board down next to the nest and lift the relevant piglets into the nest.
The split nursing unit is battery-powered so there are no cables to worry about. Recharge the battery after about two months’ use. To recharge, use a car battery (not electronic) or a 24V supply cable. If the battery is exhausted, the timer can neither be read nor set on the display.
